The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections following the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026, which adjusted statutory timelines for pre-election and electoral processes.
Under the new schedule:
Presidential and National Assembly Elections will now hold on Saturday, 16 January 2027.
Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections are rescheduled for Saturday, 6 February 2027.
The Osun State Governorship Election, previously slated for 8 August 2026, will now hold on Saturday, 15 August 2026.
Key milestones in the timetable include:
Party primaries and resolution of disputes: 23 April – 30 May 2026
Presidential and National Assembly campaigns: 19 August 2026 – 24 hours before Election Day
Governorship and State Assembly campaigns: 9 September 2026 – 24 hours before Election Day
INEC emphasized strict adherence to the timelines and warned political parties that compliance with the law would be enforced.
The Commission reaffirmed that the successful conduct of the elections is a collective responsibility and urged all stakeholders to work towards peaceful, credible, and inclusive polls that reflect the sovereign will of Nigerians.
