The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a graphic circulating online which claims that March 26 has been fixed as the deadline for government officials intending to contest elections to resign from office.
In a public notice issued by the Commission, INEC clarified that the information did not originate from it and described the graphic as false and misleading.
The electoral body urged members of the public, media organisations and political stakeholders to disregard the message, stressing that no such announcement has been made regarding a resignation deadline.
INEC reiterated that all official information, announcements and updates from the Commission are communicated solely through its verified channels, including its official website, verified social media platforms and authorised press releases.
The Commission therefore advised citizens to verify election-related information through these official platforms to avoid the spread of misinformation capable of misleading the public.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely and transparent information to Nigerians on electoral matters.
