Some Executive Chairmen of Local Government Councils in Lagos State say Nigeria remains a great country and will surmount its various challenges.
They said this in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos, as Nigerians celebrate the country’s 62nd independence anniversary.
Dr Ahmed Apatira, the Executive Chairman Itire-Ikate LCDA, said that Nigerians’ resilience, resourcefulness and determination to succeed in all spheres of human endeavour is widely recognised and acknowledged across the world.
“It may seem as if we are passing through insurmountable challenges, but I am very aware of the ‘can do Nigerian spirit’, which will help us surmount our present challenges.
“Reflecting on our journey in the last 62 years as a nation, there is every reason to give thanks to the Almighty God who has kept us together in spite of our challenges.
“No doubt, we are a blessed nation with great potential to rank among the most prosperous countries in the world,” he said.
Apatira, therefore, called for oneness and tolerance among Nigerians, adding that the country would emerge stronger than its challenges when everyone sees ensuring peace as a collective effort.
He said a diligent and united front was necessary to aggregate the people’s collective strength to survive the trying times.
The Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Hon Segun Odunmbaku in his Independence message received by Lagos Panorama said “Happy Independence Day to the people of Ojodu LCDA”.
“As citizens, service and sacrifice to country and fatherland in the spirit of true patriotism must be a front burner in the heart of every Nigerian, meaning the country’s prosperity, peace, sanity and orderliness should be the utmost desire of everyone of us”.
“On this Independence Day, we should resolve to dedicate and devote more of our collective will towards Nigeria’s unity and progress as it is by such then we can realize our aspiration of a great prosperous country according to our desires and the dreams of our founding fathers. Happy Independence Day!” he concluded.
Mrs. Idowu Senbanjo, the Executive Chairman, Apapa Local Government Area, also felicitated all Nigerian citizens on the 62nd independence anniversary.
“I urge Nigerians to keep hope alive and believe that definitely there is going to be light at the end of the tunnel for the country.
“However, everyone must put all hands on deck by doing the right things, always,” she said.
Mr. Emmanuel Bamgboye, the Executive Chairman, Mushin Local Government Area, said in his message that the unity in the country as well as diversity and interrelated dependence on one another, particularly, in socio-cultural, economic and political activities had been helpful for national development.
“May God Almighty continue to strengthen us in peace, love and unity. May his goodness and mercy continue to abide with us and grant us a successful transition, as we prepare for the 2023 general elections,” he prayed.
Also, Moyosore Ogunlewe, the Executive Chairman, Kosofe Local Government, said Nigerians continued to celebrate, with pride, the 62nd anniversary of the country’s sovereignty, even in different challenges.
“In the midst of our struggles, we have experienced tremendous success in economic and political stability, agriculture, health and social services, demonstrating an indomitable zeal and a compelling desire to excel against the odds,” he said.
The Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon Samson Folorunso Olatunde in his goodwill message sent to Lagos Panorama averred that “it is with full gratitude to God that today, as a Nation, we are celebrating Nigeria’s sixty-second Independence Anniversary”.
“Let me use this ample opportunity to say a big congratulation to all our leaders in various tiers of government and administration; His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Leader of our Party, APC, and by the grace of the Almighty God, the incoming President of our great country, Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu, every citizen of this great country, Nigeria, of our prestigious state, Lagos and the good people of Olorunda LCDA”.
“May I remind you all that the sovereign state, Nigeria is a product of the collective effort of our heroes; all hands were on deck from the West, East, North and South”.
“Today, despite the challenges we are facing as a Nation, all of us still maintain the spirit of 1st October; that positive outlook and determination to make Nigeria a peaceful and prosperous nation, doggedly flows through our veins”.
“It is very imperative to state that such a day as this needs to rejuvenate the spirit of Nationalism in us”.
“The growth and development of this country is dependent on how much and how strong we can activate the Nationalism tendencies in us”.
“We are stronger as one: let us, however, reflect strongly on how we can harness our strength by fusing our efforts at building our Nation, Nigeria, our prestigious state, Lagos and our cherished LCDA, Olorunda”.
“Nigeria is for all of us, it’s unity is not negotiable and it’s ultimate success can only be achieved if we all come together with a common intent of building our Nation”.
