PRELIMINARY REPORT ON INCIDENT AT 11TH ACCESS BANK LAGOS CITY MARATHON
The Lagos State Government has commenced an investigation into an incident that occurred on Friday, February 14, 2026, near the finishing line of the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
According to an official statement, an ambulance deployed as part of the event’s medical emergency response was involved in an incident while conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention. A female non-athlete within the event arena reportedly came in contact with the vehicle during the process.
Event officials immediately alerted the ambulance crew to halt upon noticing the development. The emergency medical team promptly assessed the affected individual at the scene before transferring her to a public health facility for further evaluation and treatment.
The patient sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised on-site, with medical personnel confirming that her vital signs were stable at the time of evacuation. She is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding positively.
The Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are closely monitoring the situation, with senior government officials having visited the hospital.
Authorities confirmed that the patient remains stable and under close professional supervision.
A comprehensive investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
