The governor explained that his administration is working behind the scene to support the families of the victims and provide succor to them.

“There is a plan around what kind of incentives [to give]; we don’t need to publicly announce that. The issue is that we want to be sure we are dealing with the right people,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said on Saturday.

Sanwo-Olu also expressed his administration’s intention to provide monetary support to families to help with the burial arrangements for their loved ones.

He also cited a case of an unidentified young man that was trapped in the rubble, assuring that the government will help his family.

Sanwo-Olu added: “If you let us know who this young person is and we can identify him as one of the people that were on-site, we can pick up his case. Some of them, we are also helping out. The people that are going to the Infectious Disease Hospital to pick up their corpses, also have an option because the government has also provided a cost for the burial cost for them.

“We have ensured that we can pick and there is a sum of money that has been made available to be given to the family that so wish just to support the burial arrangements extensively. Also, people that are in the hospital are given support so that they can settle back at home without having the challenge of how do we eat for the next couple of days.”

The high-rise building on Gerrard Road in the Ikoyi area of Lagos caved in on Monday killing at least 42 people.
