Lagos, Nigeria — The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced the reopening of the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal for operational activities, effective January 19, 2026. This follows the temporary closure of the terminal three months ago due to navigational challenges caused by the infestation of water hyacinth.

In a statement released on Friday, LASWA confirmed that services would resume as normal with the reopening of the terminal. “Following successful clearance of the waterway, completion of safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the terminal is now fully cleared for operations,” the statement read.

The closure, which began on October 20, 2025, forced ferry services to be temporarily rerouted to Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty. With the reopening, ferry operators are directed to resume services in line with their approved schedules, adhering to all existing safety and operational requirements.

This development marks a significant milestone for Lagos’ growing water transportation sector, as the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal is one of the major terminals serving the region’s commuters.
