Kadri Israel of Agidingbi Primary School and Amaukwe Favor of Onilekere Junior High School have emerged winners in the primary and junior secondary school categories, respectively, at the 2026 Spelling Bee 2.0 Competition organised by Ikeja Local Government.
The competition, held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, brought together pupils and students to showcase their spelling proficiency, academic excellence and intellectual abilities.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the education and development of children and youths through the Ikeja Agenda.
Dauda emphasised that education remains one of the major focal points of his administration, noting that young people require mentorship, encouragement and adequate support to realise their potential.
“I believe if you give a child education, you have given him or her everything. That is why we need to provide mentorship and support for them because they are the leaders of tomorrow,” the Chairman said.
Congratulating Kadri Israel on his emergence as the primary school category winner, Dauda expressed confidence in the young pupil’s potential and described his achievement as an encouraging sign for the future.
As part of his administration’s commitment to supporting academic excellence, the Chairman promised to present Israel with a brand-new laptop and provide him with free information technology (IT) training.
He also disclosed that Agidingbi Primary School produced the winner of the previous edition, expressing optimism that the school could sustain its winning record at the state-level competition.
Dauda pledged to collaborate with the school’s management and teachers to adequately prepare the winners for the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that Ikeja produces the overall state champion and secures the opportunity for the winner to become the One-Day Governor of Lagos State.
In her remarks, Amaukwe Favor, winner of the junior secondary school category, appreciated the organisers for successfully conducting the competition.
She described the contest as challenging but interesting and entertaining, adding that the experience had motivated her to prepare more intensively for the state-level competition.
Similarly, Kadri Israel acknowledged the demanding nature of this year’s contest and expressed gratitude for emerging victorious.
He pledged to intensify his preparations ahead of the state competition, expressing determination to represent Ikeja Local Government successfully and bring further glory to the council.
