Ikeja Kicks Off Qualitative Assessment for Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of SDGs in Lagos

Ikeja Local Government Area on Thursday, hosted the official launch of the Qualitative Assessment for the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Lagos State.

 

The event was flagged off by the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, who declared the exercise open. In her opening remarks, Dr. Finnih emphasized that the assessment is not just about statistics, but about capturing the real voices, aspirations, and experiences of Lagosians across Local Government and Council Areas.

 

She reaffirmed that Lagos, as a megacity, must continue to demonstrate how global aspirations can be localized into practical, impactful outcomes that ensure no one is left behind.

 

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), extended a warm welcome to the Special Adviser and participants, expressing satisfaction that Ikeja was chosen to host this momentous exercise, which is in perfect sync with his administration’s I.K.E.J.A AGENDA, prioritizing governance that puts people first.

 

“Development must be about people, not just policies. This qualitative assessment will help us understand the true needs of our communities, and it is a privilege for Ikeja to be part of this historic process. I assure you that our administration will continue to support every initiative of Mr. Governor that prioritizes inclusiveness, equity, and sustainable growth,” AKOD remarked.

 

The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Abisola Omisore (Omituntun), along with traditional leaders including Baales and the Regent of Ikeja, Chief Isiaka Apena.

 

Additionally, community stakeholders and residents of Ikeja, including CDA and CDC executives, actively participated in the session.

 

The event highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to accountable, transparent, and people-centered governance, with Lagos once again setting the pace in aligning local realities with the global SDGs framework.
