Okuboarere Karebo of Ward E has emerged as the champion of the Chess event of the ongoing Ikeja Games on Wednesday.
Karebo defeated all opponents to poll 10 points and outplayed Adepoju Alfred in the final deciding game
Alfred and Odebiyi Israel emerged in second and third positions respectively
The young discovery of the maiden edition of the Ikeja Games Emmanuel Adejorin got a total of 4 points to tally with Israel for the third-place contest which was eventually won by the older athlete.
The youngest athlete of the games expressed his gratitude to Rt Hon James Abiodun Faleke for creating a platform for him and other athletes to display their God-given talents.
Teams event will commence on Friday with basketball at the Police College GRA Ikeja
Table tennis will also takeoff on Friday at Ojodu LCDA Secretariat
The much-anticipated football contest will kickoff hostilities at the Oregun High school as Ward B of Agidingbi will play Ward G from Oke-Ira in the opener
Two more football games are also scheduled for Saturday while the two remaining first-round games will be played on Sunday from 1 pm
