The much-anticipated football event of the ongoing Ikeja Games powered by the Member House of Representatives for Ikeja Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon James Abiodun Faleke kicked off on Saturday at the Opebi Primary School, Ikeja Lagos.
The opening pulsating game between Ward G and their Ward B opponent couldn’t produce any goal and went into a penalty shootout and Ward B won the first game of the knockout series by 5 goals to 4
The football event was kicked off by the Executive Chairman Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon Oladotun Olakanle.
Ward F team won the second game with a single goal scored from the spot after their Ward A team opponent from Anifowoshe committed a foul offense in their box 18 after 78 minutes of play.
The third and final game of the day saw the Ward C team from Oregun defeat Ward H by a single goal scored late into the second half
Coincidentally, the Special Guest of the day Hon Olakanle resides in Oregun, Ward C
The council boss while speaking with journalists shortly after the kickoff, expressed his gratitude to Rt Hon James Abiodun Faleke for his immense support in empowering the members of his Ikeja Federal Constituency.
Olakanle alluded that Rt. Hon Faleke has done more than enough to deserve another term and the people of Ikeja will be ready to massively vote for him again in the forthcoming elections.
He also noted that the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is the right candidate to lead Nigeria back on track for progressive change.
The Onigbongbo Council Chairman urged everyone to ensure that they get their voters card to be able to vote for all the APC candidates
The basketball game final and third place were decided today at the Police College, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
Ward F defeated the Ikeja Kings team by 33 baskets to 30 in the game creating a lot of anxiety and emotions as the Ward F boys dunked their way back from 11 baskets down to victory.
The Ikeja Kings team is still under investigation for a misdemeanor during the pulsating game that drew large supporters for both teams
The LOC awaits the report from the National Institute for Sports, NIS, officials who are technical partners, to decide the faith of the Ikeja Kings team
The remaining two first-round football matches will be played on Sunday at 1.30 pm as Ward D from Onilekere takes on Opebi, while Ward E, Ikeja Allstars confront WARD I team from GRA at
Ten teams representing the ten INEC wards of Ikeja are contesting in the football event in a knockout series.
The 5 winners will be joined by the 3 best losers for the quarterfinal games.
The table tennis contest also continues on Sunday at the Ojodu LCDA Council Secretariat
