The National Security Council (NSC) rose from its third meeting in two weeks with the approval of new security measures for both South-south and South-east geo-political zones.
This was disclosed Tuesday by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IG), Usman Alkali Baba, while speaking with journalists after the Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari who presided over the meeting specifically gave the go ahead for a new security arrangement to be put in place in the two southern zones.
The IG, however, declined to give details about the new security measures.
The NSC also approved a memo on the importation of drugs presented by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd), which he said are enablers of insecurity, but did not also elaborate on it.
The NSA, however, said the meeting stressed the need to address the security challenges in the country particularly those that have arisen in the last few months.
