Igbo stakeholders issue guidelines for conferment of ‘Eze’ title

Piqued by the indiscriminate conferment of ‘Eze’ title’, especially outside Igbo land, some Igbo stakeholders, supported by Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, the apex socio cultural organisation, have waded in to sanitise the system.

This was made public during a media conference hosted by Council of Ndieze Igbo in Lagos, where they decried the indiscriminate coronation of persons with dubious intentions as ‘Eze’ in complete negation of Igbo cultural values.

The General Secretary and Chairman of the group, Remi Anyamele and Christopher Offia respectively took turns to bemoan how such disregard to the value system of Ndi Igbo has often pitched Igbos legitimately pursuing their businesses in Lagos against the state authorities, reiterating that the group has suspended one of its members on this premise.

A communiqué issued at the end of the event reads in part: “Those at the head of this cartel (incessant coronation of Ezes) should know that they have constituted themselves into mere criminals and deviants who are against the progress of Ndi Igbo. The Council of Ndieze Lagos has resolved to maintain a very warm, cordial, friendly and brotherly relationship with their hosts (Lagos State) and any action putting Ndigbo at daggers drawn with Lagos State is retrogressive
