The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Babatunde Hunpe, has inaugurated members of the council’s executive cabinet, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering meaningful development to residents.

The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Babatunde Hunpe, has inaugurated members of the council’s executive cabinet, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering meaningful development to residents.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Hunpe described the event as a key milestone in advancing his administration’s “Greater Badagry Rising Agenda,” aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the ten wards of the local government.

The chairman noted that the newly inaugurated officials—comprising the Secretary to the Local Government, Supervisors and Special Advisers—emerged through what he described as a transparent and inclusive process within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the nomination process allowed each ward to present credible candidates, ensuring that the final list reflected the collective voice of the people of Badagry.

“Badagry Local Government does not need passengers; it needs partners. Your appointment is not a trophy to display but a tool to deploy in solving the challenges facing our people,” Hunpe said while congratulating the new appointees.

He urged them to take full responsibility for their portfolios, remain accountable to residents, and introduce innovative ideas that would enhance governance and community development.

Hunpe also called on political leaders and stakeholders in the council area to sustain unity and strengthen consultations for the overall progress of the local government.

“Badagry is too important for us to waste energy on avoidable conflicts. When we are united, the people win; when we are divided, everyone loses,” he added.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Council Manager, Mary Abosede Olusanya, said the Hunpe administration had continued to promote an inclusive style of governance in the council. She congratulated the newly appointed officials and urged them to work collaboratively to achieve the administration’s development goals.

The oath of office was administered by the council’s Legal Officer, Kehinde Popoola, beginning with the Secretary to the Local Government and followed by other cabinet and non-cabinet appointees.

Among those inaugurated were Benjamin Adagba as Secretary to the Local Government and Taiwo Towolawi as Chief of Staff, alongside several supervisors and special advisers assigned to key sectors including health, education, environment, tourism, agriculture, youth and sports, and civic engagement.

The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the member representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Saanu Bonu Solomon; the Commissioner for Home Affairs in Lagos State, Ibrahim Layode; and the immediate past chairman of Badagry Local Government, Olusegun Onilude.

Others in attendance included the Vice-Chairman of the council, Akeem Adeyemi; councillors led by the Leader of the House, Asokere Mautin Bankole; council management staff; APC leaders and executives in Badagry; traditional rulers; and other stakeholders.

The event concluded with calls for unity and collective efforts towards sustainable development in Badagry and across Lagos State.
