Hon Kasunmu’s Family Church holds Thanksgiving Service in honour of his birthday, election victory

The famous St. Peters Church on Ajele Street, Faji area of Lagos Island was agog yesterday (Sun 2nd April 2023), as the Kasunmu and Mogaji families of Lagos, in conjunction with the church parishioners hosted one of their sons, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu (ARK), to a surprise thanksgiving service in appreciation of God’s Grace upon the life of the young Lawmaker who was recently re-elected to Lagos State House of Assembly and also clocked 40 earlier in the week.

The family event coincided with the Palm Sunday commemoration.

During the service, the Choristers rendered songs of praise and also sang Hymns to thank God for the recent landmarks in the life of Hon. Kasunmu, who once served as a young Chorister in the church many years back.

Quoting from the Scriptures, the presiding Priest, *Venerable Samuel Ifeyemi,* emphasized the importance of giving thanks to God in all situations. He commended Hon. Kasunmu for his exploits in the political arena and charged him to keep demonstrating the core values of Christ as he moves to the next phase of his career and life.

The man of God prayed for him and all the newly elected political officeholders, especially Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In his response, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, who attended the event in company with his adorable wife, Mrs. Morenike Esther Kasunmu and other family members, such as Mrs. Rukayat Makinde, her husband, Lagos Big Boy, Lekan Makinde, Kehinde Dada and others, thanked the Church and the family for the celebration and for deeming it fit to organize the thanksgiving in his honour. As a mark of honour to the memory of his late mentor and mother figure, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson, Hon. Kasunmu personally requested for Yeye Kemi Nelson’s special song “EMI NI KAN LOYE, IDI TI MOFI YIN BABA, EMI NI KAN LOYE, as the initial rendition for the thanksgiving.

Also present at the Thanksgiving service were Chief Adekunle Kasunmu, (Hon ARK’s father), who initiated the ceremony, his wife, Mrs. Olukemi Kasunmu as well as other notable personalities from Ikeja Constituency 2 such as Engr. Tokunbo Oyedemi (DG, ARK ICG); Comrade Tayo Aderiola (APC Ikeja LGA Publicity Secretary/ Publisher, Panorama Group); Mr. Seun Makinde, CEO, S-Bar Lounge with his beautiful wife, Mrs Bukky Makinde; Mr. Babatunde Oguns, Comrade Segun Benson JP; Mrs. Oloruntoyin Ikujimiyo; Babatunde Shobola; Juwon Coker and others.

Hon. Kasunmu is the lawmaker representing Ikeja Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly. He is also the Chairman of, the House Committee on Lands. He was recently re-elected for a third term in a landslide victory, beating his closest opponent with over 10,000 votes. He celebrated his 40th Birthday on the 29th of March 2023.

Established in 1853, St. Peter’s Church (Faji), Lagos has for 170 years been an epicenter of worship and service to God and humanity.

For Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, yesterday’s event, was not just a family thanksgiving, it was a nostalgic return to a church where he spent part of his growing years.
