The honourable member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ikeja Constituency II, and Chairman House Committee on Lands, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu (ARK) has bagged the Lagos Panorama Distinguished Legislative SDG Award in recognition of his efforts for advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) in his Constituency in the last couple of years.
The Publisher and Editor of the sociopolitical magazine and News Online platform, Lagos Panorama, Comrade Tayo Aderinola who was at the State Assembly on Monday, April 12, 2021 for the presentation of the prestigious award averred that Hon. Kasunmu has done quite a lot in the last few years in promoting the SDGs in his Ikeja Constituency II of Lagos State.
Aderinola said, “We can attest to the fact that you provided access to Education for youths within your constituency by sponsoring free GCE and JAMB registration in the last 3 years promoting quality education representing the 4th goal of the SDG”.
“We also monitored how you put up a superb COVID-19 response in the constituency at the peak of the lockdown of 2020. These included but not limited to the provision and distributions of thousands of Sanitizers, Facemasks, various food stimulus and the ARK lockdown Cash Transfer to constituents, all these also promotes the 1st, 2nd and 3rd SDG goals of No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being respectively”.
“Most recently, you also enhanced access to clean water in the constituency by donating four boreholes in four wards of your constituency thereby advancing the SDG number 6”.
“All these are great examples of SDGs implementation at the constituency level by Hon. Kasunmu and we believe these are laudable. This award therefore is to motivate you to do more”, Lagos Panorama Publisher, Comrade Tayo Aderinola asserted.
In his response, Hon. Kasunmu who personally received the award in his office, thanked the Lagos Panorama editorial for the recognition. He also thanked the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa for his quality leadership as a huge inspiration to all lawmakers through various programmes, especially the annual Stakeholders meetings simultaneous across the 40 State’s assembly constituencies, which ensures all legislators touch base regularly.
Hon Kasunmu said, “It’s a tradition that evolved as a necessity for communal communication between the legislature and the people. This was brought about by the great leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa who has impacted tremendously in spurring the forty constituencies of the Lagos Assemble to a very laudable direction”.
“The birth of this came to fore when the House of Assembly Members would largely collectively hold the annual constituency stakeholders meeting simultaneously across the forty constituencies on the same day, this is a way of getting stakeholders together to know issues that affect the respective community”.
“So, from this point is where we actually get to know what kind of issues or challenges the communities are facing. We’re able to know where they need water, places we need to reach out to in terms of facilitating of road constructions among which in my constituency are Ajayi road, Aina road, Adebowale, Osaye street to Adu up to Calvary which was a major challenging one, considering the topology of the area. Initially the construction was stopped at Osaye but I approached the Honourable Speaker to help talk to the amiable Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure further rehabilitation of the road up to Calvary axis, it was a though one but I thank GOD for the magnanimity of the Speaker and good support we got from the government of Mr. Sanwo-Olu we were able to achieve that to a satisfactory point, it’s almost completed. Those roads has improved the environment far better from what it used to be”
“So, with the symbiotic relationship between the legislature and the executive we have been able to achieve the tremendous sustainable development goals in line with the Vision 2020-20230. I am also to inform you that Rt. Honourable Obasa also facilitated the Agege bridge recently commissioned and a host of SDG projects were facilitated by distinguished members of the State Assembly”.
Hon. Kasunmu therefore dedicated the award to the people of his Constituency, especially the leadership of the party. He also thanked them for their unflinching support and promised to do more.
Aderinola who is also the author of the Iyaloja Playbook recently enlisted into the Lagos State Curriculum for JSS 3 Literature in English, officially presented copies of the book to Hon Kasunmu who is the grandson to Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji and nephew to the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
