Gunshots as NURTW factions clash in Lagos over ticket collection

Police operatives are said to have been deployed to the affected area.

Residents and passersby in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State have to run for their lives as factional members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) clashed on Friday, February 11, 2022.

The union members engaged in another violent clash less than three weeks after the Government of Lagos State suspended their activities at Idumota.

During the conflicts, the warring factions, who were said to be fighting over ticket collection fired gunshots at each other.

While confirming the development, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu said policemen have been deployed to the area.

He said, “It was a brewing conflict over ticketing that would have led to a violent confrontation/crisis between two factions of NURTW in Kola Bus Stop area and its environs.

“Police patrol teams from Alakuko, Agbado, Ijaiye- Ojokoro and reinforcements from the headquarters have been deployed to the area on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi.

Ajisebutu said the place is now calm as the police are still maintaining their presence in the area.
