Gunmen Abduct 25 Travellers In Ondo

The victims are said to be members of the Choir of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Igan, Akure, the state capital.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted 25 travellers along the Owo/Ifon/Benin Expressway in Ondo State.

The victims are said to be members of the Choir of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Igan, Akure, the state capital.

The abductors were said to have struck at about 3 pm on Friday around Elegbeka village while they were on their way to Ifon for a funeral ceremony.

The Public Relations Officer of Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident via text message.

She noted that the incident was reported to the police, that an empty bus with inscription of CAC was abandoned by the roadside around Elegbeka.

She said men of the anti-kidnapping Squad of the Command have been drafted to the area to rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.

The Owo/Ifon/Benin Expressway has become a dangerous corridor as several cases of kidnappings and armed robbery have happened in the area in recent times.

It would be recalled that a grade A traditional ruler in the State, The Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi was killed around Elegbeka while travelling from Akure to Ifon in November, 2020.
