The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Agege Constituency I, Hon. Gbenga Abiola, popularly known as Agbelebu, has called for greater emphasis on purpose-driven youth leadership, innovation and measurable impact in governance.
Abiola made the call while participating as a panelist at a youth symposium organised by the Office of the Southwest APC Youth Leader.
The symposium, themed “Young Leaders: Real Impact – Transforming Governance Through Youth Leadership and Innovation,” brought together young people from across the Southwest to discuss the role of youth in shaping effective and responsive governance.
Speaking on “Purpose, Vision and Innovative Governance,” Abiola said the conversation around youth participation in leadership should go beyond the number of young people occupying political positions.
According to him, the more important question is the difference young leaders make after attaining positions of authority.
He noted that leadership begins with purpose, is guided by vision and becomes meaningful when translated into innovation, results and measurable impact.
Abiola also unveiled his intention to sponsor legislation that would promote the integration of technical and vocational education with conventional academic education.
He said the initiative would equip young people with a combination of academic, practical, technological and entrepreneurial skills required to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and competitive world.
“The future of governance is not simply about putting young people at the table. It is about raising purpose-driven, innovative and solution-oriented leaders who can transform their vision into results,” he said.
Abiola urged young people to discover their purpose, develop clear visions and embrace innovative pathways to leadership, stressing that true leadership should ultimately be measured by its impact on the people.
He summed up his message with a call for young leaders to “discover your purpose, build your vision, innovate your pathway and make your leadership count.”
He added: “Leadership is not about the position you occupy, but the difference people experience because you occupied it.”
