The Executive Chairman Eti-Osa Local Government, Hon. Saheed Adesegun Bankole, alongside his Legislative and Executive cabinet members, distributed relief packages to 3000 households within Eti-Osa on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the Local Government Secretariat.
The Council Boss in his opening remark said “amidst the rising cost of living currently experienced in the country, it has become pertinent to extend a hand of kindness to vulnerable members of the community. This would help alleviate some burdens in the household”.
Hon. Bankole further explained that the distribution of the relief packs to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal represents the administration’s commitment to supporting the community in times of need”.
“The decision to remove fuel subsidies was not taken lightly, and we understand the concerns that it has raised among our citizens”.
“However, we assure you that the funds reallocated from these subsidies will be used judiciously to uplift and empower our community.” the LG boss, said.
According to the Chairman when addressing the press during the distribution exercise, “this is just a first phase out of other robust plans still to be unveiled for the benefit of the citizens, the distribution of these relief packs is just one step in our ongoing commitment to ensuring that Eti-Osa remains a place of progress, prosperity, and shared aspirations”.
He said children and the youths will also not be left out as plans are in place to organize a back-to-school package for them, bursary distributions, and scholarships to students in higher institutions.
The Vice Chairman, Omooba Adeola Adetoro Adeyanju, who addressed the people, urged everyone to remain understanding with the government during this trying period as it will eventually get better for the good of the society.
She urged everyone to remain calm and orderly as there were enough materials to go round.
She also emphasised that the well-being of the community is at the forefront of every decision made by the administration.
The free food bank initiative is a vital endeavour meant to directly impact the lives of the residents in Eti-Osa and it is going to be a recurrent exercise in order to ensure no citizen is left behind and all can enjoy dividends of democracy.
Each relief pack contains essential food items like garri, beans, rice and a litre of groundnut oil, distributed for free and not to be sold out.
