…As Governor Sanwo-Olu Declares 25th National Women’s Conference Open
…“We Are Celebrating Impact, Resilience, and Visionary Leadership,” Says Lagos First Lady
The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerian women to uphold enduring values that strengthen families, nurture communities, and inspire younger generations toward national development.
Senator Tinubu made the call while delivering her goodwill message virtually at the opening of the 25th National Women’s Conference (NWC) of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The First Lady commended COWLSO’s founding women and successive leaders for their visionary contributions to women’s empowerment, social welfare, and community development.
“We cannot celebrate 25 years of COWLSO without honouring our past,” she said. “We celebrate the vision of its founder, the late Mrs. Olufunmilayo Omobolaji Johnson, whose pioneering work continues to empower women and strengthen families across Lagos and beyond.”
Senator Tinubu noted that real progress is achieved when women are equipped and encouraged to take active roles in shaping society.
“Our legacy is the next generation we inspire,” she added. “As mothers, leaders, and mentors, we must nurture women and girls to be confident, visionary, and capable of transforming our country.”
Declaring the silver jubilee conference open, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, praised COWLSO for its sustained contributions to inclusive development, describing women as the bedrock of the State’s progress and stability.
“Legacy is not about the past; it is about the future,” the Governor said. “As we celebrate 25 years of this great vision, we must ensure the ideals of compassion, collaboration, and community service continue to guide new generations of women leaders.”
In her welcome address, the Wife of the Governor and Chairman of COWLSO, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, described the 25th edition as a celebration of impact, resilience, and visionary leadership.
“As we mark 25 years of selfless service, we must remind ourselves that legacy is not about longevity but impact,” she said. “Our mission remains to raise women who will drive change in their families, communities, and across every sector of society.”
She noted that COWLSO has evolved into a formidable platform for promoting gender inclusivity and supporting government initiatives in health, education, the environment, and youth development.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu also announced that the week-long conference will feature panel discussions, masterclasses, and exhibitions designed to equip women with modern skills and networks to thrive in today’s fast-changing world.
“COWLSO’s story is one of shared vision and collaboration,” she concluded. “We are determined to keep this torch burning and ensure that women continue to shape the destiny of Lagos and Nigeria.”
The 25th National Women’s Conference continues this week with interactive sessions, exhibitions, and mentorship activities, attracting women from diverse fields to share ideas on building a more inclusive and equitable society.
