Fire guts popular Lagos supermarket

A fire outbreak on Thursday morning gutted Justrite Superstore on Akowonjo Road, Egbeda-Akowonjo area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the fire affected the electronics section of the popular store located on the second floor of a commercial building at No. 116, Akowonjo Road, Jimoh Bus Stop, Egbeda-Akowonjo.

However, no casualty was recorded in the incident the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire incident in a statement sent to Daily Sun.

According to a situation report signed by the Controller General of the service, Margaret Adeseye, a distress call was received at 08:15 am and firefighters from Abesan and Agege Fire Stations arrived at 08:28 am.

“Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly deployed firefighting equipment and commenced coordinated operations to contain the fire, prevent its spread to adjoining sections of the building, and safeguard lives, property and environment,” the statement reads in part.

The service stated that the fire was later put out, with recovery of remains ongoing to conclude the mop-up exercise.

The service said the cause of the fire is “suggestive of alternative power source solar inverter system” and confirmed that no casualty was recorded.

Adeseye urged members of the public to ensure proper maintenance of electrical and power systems to prevent similar incidents.
