FG, Labour lock in emergency meeting to avert strike

The meeting of the tripartite committee on new minimum wage is currently ongoing in Abuja to avert Tuesday’s nationwide strike by Organised Labour.

Principal actors are on ground for the meeting are NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, who insisted that the organised labour would not be part of any agreement short of N30,000.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation had at Sunday’s meeting, boycotted by labour, stressed the need for consensual agreement in the interest of the nation’s economy.

While the state governors agreed to pay N22,500, FG promises N24,000 but labour insists N30000 or a national strike.

Details of the meeting are still being awaited.

Victor Ibezim, a blogger who alleged that former Works and Housing Minister, Mr Babatunde Fashola, authored the judgments of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) that dismissed the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s petitions was arraigned before Justice Bolaji Olajuwon of a Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday on a six-count charge.
