Eti-Osa Local Government celebrates world tree planting day

In commemoration of year 2022 World Tree Planting day, which has it’s Theme as : In Harmony With Nature. Eti-osa moved from it’s usual practice of planting along the highways to the inner communities, this is done to enlighten members of the public about the importance of having tress planted within communities and households as a sustainable way of cushioning the effects of the global warming.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State Mr Obafemi Hamzat who was ably represented by Mr. Kareem, an official from LASPARK, delivered his keynote address. Worthy of note from his speech is the fact that stated that the continuous practice of tree planting has contributed to building a greener and healthier environment. Also the seriousness of the administration to incorporate a climate friendly initiative with every activity embarked upon in line with the Lagos State Climate Action Plan (2020-2025).

Representing the Executive Chairman was the Secretary To The Local Government Hon. Idowu Badru, who gave the welcome speech. Recalling few years back, the Oseni Mayegun community where the event held used to be filled with trees bearing fruits of all kinds and due to the rapid development going on, everywhere now seems to be devoid of trees. He admonished the leaders of the community to set good examples by nurturing the trees planted there today and also encouraged other households to plant more trees for the greater good of the community.

The Chairman, Association of Hulticulturist in Lekki Mr Amos Educated the people about the several health benefits of being surrounded by nature to the guests.

There was a cross section of guests who took turns in planting the nurseries around the neighborhood. The Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Sharafat Balogun gave the vote of thanks.

Others In attendance are the SA on environment Mrs Stella, Member of the Legislative council Hon. Mudasiru Sodiq, S.A on Revenue Generation and Market Administration Mr Kadiri Samuel, S.A on Budget Mr. Moshood Shade.
