#EndSARS: Sanwo-Olu commences on-the-spot-assessment of destruction to public and private properties, visits Ajeromi Ifelodun LG, and other spots

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu has commenced visitation for an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the level of destruction to the public assets and private properties by hoodlums during the EndSARS protests.

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu has commenced visitation for an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the level of destruction to the public assets and private properties by hoodlums during the EndSARS protests.

Governor Sanwo-Olu on Friday visited the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area council secretariat where he shared the feelings of the Executive Chairman, management, staff and residents of the council after hoodlums invaded the secretariat and set it ablaze after massive looting on Tuesday.

The Governor was received by Hon. Fatai Ayoola and Hon. Fatai Ajidagba, both Executive Chairmen of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government and Ifelodun Local Council Development Area respectively.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who was accompanied by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and others, did an on the spot assessment of the remains of burnt vehicles, numbering 86 and looted offices and buildings in the secretariat, he expressed dismay at the actions of the vandals.

Governor Sanwo-Olu twitted on his handle @jidesanwoolu, he stated that “Today, on our journey across Lagos, we paid respect to the ones we have lost. It was an emotional time for everyone, and we will find a way to remember them in the coming days.”

“Lagos belongs to us all. No other state has this unique combination of people living in peace, harmony and progress so it saddened me when I went round for an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the level of destruction to public assets and private properties”.

“Our beautiful city has seen a level of destruction almost akin to a war zone. It was a shocking and very sad spectacle. Our land took a beating and this hurts. Historical buildings, cultural centres, private malls, government holdings and private businesses were pillaged & burnt” he asserted.

Lagos Panorama had reported on Tuesday that the mob looted the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), council Chairman’s office, Council Treasurer’s office among other offices.

The Media Aide to the council Chairman, Sheriff Ekundayo told Lagos Panorama the protesters arrived the Ajeromi Ifelodun secretariat shortly after setting Layeni police station ablaze.

“They started attacking everybody, injuring the security officials before setting the secretariat ablaze.

“They looted the Chairman’s office, the Treasurer’s office and some offices down stairs. The ATM was not spared,” Ekundayo noted.

Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu also visited the Ajeromi Divisional Police Headquarter.

Where he also empathized with women and children believed to be wives and kinsmen of police officers in the barracks.

The governor’s entourage made a visitation to Layeni Police station in Ifelodun LCDA to inspect the police station that was set ablaze by rampaging thugs.

In an earlier press statement the Executive Chairman Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government stated that “we have setup an Emergency Committee to investigate the incident of Tuesday and to report accurate details of fatalities involved while we continue to save the lives of those in the hospitals”.

“It should worth our while to know that Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, the Police and other Law enforcement agencies have good relationship towards security issues of the community and that is maintaining law and order”.

“We frown at the destruction and burning of public or private properties in the community, while also sympathizing with the Management of First Bank of Nigeria PLC for their loss”.

“Anybody sent to burn or destroy properties belonging to the public or private organizations will meet the wrath of God as well as the law and such a person will be apprehended soon” Ayoola prayed.
