They, demanded justice for those gruesomely murdered in Lagos and other states during the protest last year.
Leading the protesting youths, Tony Gompwel of the #Takeitback Movement said, “We’re out to commemorate the first anniversary of the massacre that occurred at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2021.
“Vicious Nigerian politicians used the apparatus of the state as lethal instruments of coercion and dehumanisation to end the lives of our youths.
“We again stand here to once again place demand on the democracy of our nation.”
Gompwel, also called on the Nigerian government to be sensitive to the plight of citizens and learn from the #EndSARS protest that rocked the nation last year.
He accused politicians of frustrating the youths of the country who are the future leaders, while recounting how the Adamawa State Government arrested and incarcerated innocent protesters last year.
He said, “Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, whom we took for youths did not stand by us. He replicated the same awkward act displayed by his counterparts by employing the services of thugs”.
Gomowel lauded the courage of activists like Omoyele Sowere, saying, “You say we’re the leaders of tomorrow. Our great leader, Omoyele Sowere had told us that, the tomorrow is now.”
