The Executive Chairman of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, Hon Abiodun Jimoh Isola Ejigbadero, on Friday undertook a comprehensive inspection of ongoing and completed road projects across the council area, reaffirming his administration’s zero tolerance for substandard execution and its commitment to durable infrastructure delivery.
The projects visited during the February 13 tour include Adeleye Road (Iperu Akesan Street axis), Omisesan Road (Moshalasi), Awonusi Road (Suberu-Oje), and the newly completed Yusuf Road, all strategically located across different wards of the LCDA.
At Adeleye Road, currently at the stage of constructing two-sided drainage channels, the chairman conducted an on-the-spot technical assessment, engaging engineers and contractors on specifications and structural standards.
While acknowledging the pace of work, Ejigbadero stressed the importance of quality foundations.
“The foundation determines the lifespan of this project. The drainage base must be thick, reinforced and properly cured. We will not accept anything that will collapse after one rainy season. If it has to be redone, it will be redone,” he said.
He reiterated that the council’s infrastructural interventions are designed to be structural rather than cosmetic.
“Our residents deserve roads that will stand the test of time. We are not here for patchwork solutions; we are here to build lasting infrastructure,” he added.
Some residents welcomed the chairman’s direct supervision. Mrs. Agbeti Taiwo described the visit as reassuring, noting that contractors are more diligent when projects receive executive oversight, while Alade Abisola appealed for timely completion to ease traffic congestion along the corridor. The road falls within Ward A.
At Omisesan Road in Moshalasi, where sand filling and grading have been completed and two-sided drainage channels installed, the chairman insisted on sustained supervision until final delivery.
“This is public money. Every cubic metre of sand and every block laid must reflect value for money. There must be no shortcuts,” he said.
Residents, including Comrade Olajuwon P.O. and Mr. Kolawole Ekeolere, commended the intervention, describing the project as long overdue and impactful on residential and commercial activities. The Ward F councillor also described the development as transformative.
The inspection moved to Awonusi Road in Suberu-Oje, where covered drainage construction is nearing completion. Ejigbadero closely examined the alignment and drainage depth, emphasising flood control as a critical component before asphalt surfacing.
“Before asphalt is laid, we must be certain the drainage is properly engineered. Flood control is not optional—it is mandatory,” he stated.
The Council Chairman assured residents that infrastructural renewal remains a core mandate of his administration, to be delivered equitably across wards.
The tour concluded at Yusuf Road, where asphalt works have been completed and streetlights installed, significantly improving mobility and security in the area.
“A road without lighting is incomplete. Security and mobility must go together. With these streetlights, businesses can operate longer hours, and residents can move safely at night,” the chairman said, urging residents to safeguard public assets from vandalism.
Council Manager Fregene Gbemisola explained that the inspection formed part of the council’s quality assurance and accountability framework, describing it as a technical review rather than a ceremonial exercise.
In his closing remarks, Ejigbadero underscored his administration’s preference for sustainability over speed.
“Progress may appear gradual, but it is deliberate. We prefer to build correctly than rush and regret. These projects must endure beyond this administration,” he said.
He appealed for continued cooperation from residents as the council sustains its infrastructure renewal drive across Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA.
