DSS Arrests Suspected Arms Dealer Linked to Plateau, Northern Attacks

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected arms manufacturer and supplier, Musa Abubakar, believed to be a major source of weapons for armed groups operating in Plateau State and other northern regions.

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected arms manufacturer and supplier, Musa Abubakar, believed to be a major source of weapons for armed groups operating in Plateau State and other northern regions.

Security sources confirmed that Abubakar was apprehended on November 12, 2025, following actionable intelligence that traced his operations to the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Government Area in Plateau State.

According to DSS officials, the suspect allegedly confessed to producing and distributing high-calibre weapons, ammunition, and components used in violent attacks across the North. The raid on his workshop reportedly led to the recovery of several Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components, chemicals, and specialised equipment used in arms fabrication.

Linked to Wider Security Crackdown

The arrest comes days after the agency successfully recaptured Abdulazeez Obadaki, also known as Bomboy, a Kuje Prison escapee accused of masterminding the Owo and Deeper Life Church attacks. Security analysts say both operations highlight a renewed intelligence-led crackdown on violent networks in the region.

DSS officials noted that the agency remains committed to dismantling criminal groups and curbing the spread of illicit arms that fuel communal and terrorist violence.

Earlier Arrests Connected to Plateau and Benue Attacks

The latest breakthrough adds to a series of earlier arrests made by the DSS targeting individuals linked to recent attacks in Plateau and Benue states. A total of nine high-profile suspects have been taken into custody in recent months.

Among them is Timna Manjol (46) of First Baptist Church, Mangu LGA, Plateau State, who has already pleaded guilty to two of four charges, including unlawful possession of firearms, in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/451/2025.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, with more arrests expected as security agencies intensify efforts to stem coordinated violence across the northern region.
