DRC clinches victory over Egypt on penalties, soars into AFCON quarter final

The Democratic Republic of Congo ended a 34 minute deadlock that ensued after the initial 90 minutes of playing, and edged out the Pharaohs of Egypt from the ongoing African Cup of Nations with 8-7 score line .

DRC were the first to score through a strike by Elia Meschack but the Pharaohs equalised in the 46th minute goal via a penalty kick by Mostafa Mohamed. The regular time of the pulsating match ended with a 1-1 score line.

As the game dragged into extra time, none of the teams was able to show supremacy.

The game progressed to the level of penalty shootout. And DRC emerged victorious by beating Egypt 8-7.

DRC will play their quarter final match against Guinea on Friday.
