The Lagos state government has inaugurated a 118-bed isolation and treatment centre at Gbagada General Hospital.

Speaking at the event on Friday, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state, says the new isolation centre will be manned by highly-skilled volunteer health workers trained in infection prevention and control as well as COVID-19 case management.

This brings the number of isolation and treatment centres in the state to five.

The state government had in April inaugurated a 70-bed treatment and isolation centre at Landmark Exhibition Centre in Eti-Osa local government area.

Another 110-bed isolation and treatment facility is at Onikan while a 100-bed facility is at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba.

The state also has a 60-bed facility at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Lagos has the highest number of COVID-19 infections in Nigeria – – with 976 confirmed cases. Of the number, 187 patients have been discharged and 20 deaths have been recorded.
