Clarification on the Title of Olori Omoba and the Awujale of Ijebuland Throne

Clarification has been issued regarding the succession to the Awujale of Ijebuland throne and the status of the title Olori Omoba.

Clarification has been issued regarding the succession to the Awujale of Ijebuland throne and the status of the title Olori Omoba.

There are four recognised Ruling Houses in the Awujale of Ijebuland Chieftaincy. The late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Olukayode Adetona, GCON, hailed from the Anikinaiya Ruling House. In line with the Awujale of Ijebuland Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957 and existing chieftaincy laws, the next Awujale is to be presented by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

The title Olori Omoba, conferred on Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Anifowoshe Marshall (K1 De Ultimate) by the late Awujale, was a creation of Oba Adetona himself. Successive Awujales of Ijebuland are empowered to create chieftaincy titles, a prerogative duly exercised by the late monarch.

Ilete Rite Not Performed for Olori Omoba

Contrary to claims circulating online, the traditional Ilete rites performed for K1 were not in respect of the Olori Omoba title. Rather, the rites were conducted for his installation as Otunba Afidipote. The misconception is believed to have arisen from the simultaneous conferment of the two chieftaincy titles.

Olori Omoba Not Eligible for Awujale Succession

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is next in line to produce the Awujale. Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, however, hails from the Fidipote Ruling House. Consequently, his appointment as Olori Omoba does not qualify him for consideration in the current succession process to the Awujale throne.

Royal Lineage Not in Dispute

The stance of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House on succession should not be misconstrued as a denial of Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde’s royal ancestry. His Fidipote Ruling House, from which he holds the titles of Otunba Afidipote and Olori Omoba, fully recognises and supports his lineage and has never questioned his paternity.

This clarification has become necessary in view of widespread misinformation and misinterpretation of facts currently being circulated online.

— Omoba Adebayo Odueke, Fusengbuwa Ruling House
