In a landmark move aimed at expanding access to tertiary education, the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has distributed 500 free application forms for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to indigent but qualified students across the council area.

The initiative, implemented under the AKOD Education Support (AKOD-ES) Programme, underscores the administration’s commitment to human capital development and youth empowerment.
The Chairman represented at the presentation ceremony by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore, reaffirmed that education remains a core pillar of his administration’s I.K.E.J.A Agenda. He noted that investing in young people is critical to securing the future of Ikeja and pledged sustained efforts to eliminate financial barriers that hinder academic advancement.

Describing the gesture as an investment in the future of the beneficiaries, the Chairman urged the students to approach the opportunity with dedication and discipline. He charged them to excel in their examinations and serve as worthy ambassadors of Ikeja.
In her remarks, the Council Manager, represented by the Head of Administration and Human Resources, Comrade Jubril Aliu, commended the Chairman for prioritising education and youth development. She described the intervention as impactful and encouraged beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them through outstanding performance.
The event was attended by key officials of the local government, including the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Chief Adeniyi Adeniyi; Councillors representing Wards E and F, Hon. Tunde Folami and Hon. Ganiu Lawal; the Head of Department, Education, Mr. Femi Ogundele; Head of Department, Budget and Planning, Dr. Anita Razak; Head of Department, Legal, Mrs. Bailey Olubusola; among other management staff.

Beneficiaries who spoke at the ceremony expressed appreciation to the Chairman and pledged to make the most of the opportunity.
The distribution of the JAMB forms adds to a series of educational interventions by the current administration, including free GCE forms, back-to-school support programmes, and other youth-focused initiatives designed to promote academic excellence within Ikeja Local Government.
