Centre decries shooting of protesters

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Centre for Disabilities Issues (CDI), has condemned the shooting of protesters in Lekki, Lagos, last Tuesday.

It said the incident was unfortunate, barbaric and uncalled for.

The NGO, in a statement by its Coordinator, Comrade Kehinde Oshilaja, described the action as uncultured and uncivilised, saying a peaceful protest should not have attracted shooting.

“The shooting of peaceful protesters by suspected security agents is uncalled for.

“Last Tuesday was a sad day for Nigerians, including people living with disabilities,” he said.

Oshilaja advised the government to get closer to the people, especially youths, to prevent them from being used as thugs by politicians.

He said the government should provide jobs, good education, decent housing and other social amenities for Nigerians.
