CAF Bars South Africa Stadium from Hosting Lesotho vs Nigeria World Cup Qualifier

The Lesotho Football Association received an email notification of the decision, directing them to “identify an alternative venue from the official list of CAF category 3 stadiums” by the deadline of September 24th.

The Lesotho Football Association received an email notification of the decision, directing them to “identify an alternative venue from the official list of CAF category 3 stadiums” by the deadline of September 24th.

This development necessitates Lesotho to secure a new venue for the October 6 qualifier, a match that carries substantial implications for Nigeria’s World Cup aspirations.

The national team of Lesotho has been unable to utilise a CAF-approved home ground for several years.

The Setsoto Stadium, their primary stadium, does not fulfill the required standards for hosting international fixtures, resulting in the team playing their “home” games in neighbouring countries.

The rejection by CAF of the unnamed South African venue has now complicated logistics for both teams and increased pressure on Lesotho’s football administration to secure an alternative location on short notice.

The Nigeria-Lesotho match is one of the final two qualifiers for the Super Eagles in their Group C campaign.
