The Executive Chairman Onigbongbo LCDA Hon Babatunde Oke was on Monday presented with the Lagos Panorama SDG Grassroots Award.
The award presentation took place in the Chairman’s office by the Publisher/Editor of Lagos Panorama Comrade Tayo Aderinola and the Chairman Community Development Committee Onigbongbo Mr. Akeem Odeleye.
In his remark before the presentation the President of the Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria stated that the essence of the award is to promote the Sustainable Development Goals in the grassroots administration.
The Head of Editorial Board Lagos Panorama remarked that “our editorial board in acknowledgment of the multi-faceted achievements of the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of Lagos State created 2003 by the visionary leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, resolved to spotlight 10 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS with outstanding performance in achieving Sustainable Development Goals in the last 2 years of local government administration in Lagos State”.
Aderinola noted that the Lagos Panorama Sustainable Development Goals Grassroots Awards is to identify truly meaningful grass-root developmental efforts by persons, Local governments, non-profit organizations and companies. The categorization of these awards will be in accordance with development indices of universal acceptance”.
“These awards are intended to motivate and spur grass-root development through contribution from all spheres and subsequent edition from 2020 nominees will be nominated by their respective Community Development Committee and voting shall be done by the Community Development Associations across the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas”.
The Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA Hon Babatunde Oke expressed his gratitude to Lagos Panorama for the recognition of his efforts towards the development of Onigbongbo and stated that the award will spur him and his team to do more in the coming year.
He further stated that “next year we are going to witness lots of developmental changes in Onigbongbo LCDA. We thank both the Federal and State Governments for the financial autonomy now enjoyed by the local government administration. This has help our planning with the available resource from the federal allocation”.
“However we hope to improve on our internally generated revenue (IGR) in the coming year so as to be able to achieve more sustainable developmental projects for our people. I pray Lagos Panorama to continue to grow in leaps and bounds” Hon Oke concluded.
The Council Manager Onigbongbo LCDA Mr Ademola Azeez in his vote of thanks speech on behalf of the council stated that “let me quote the maxim that state that the reward for hard work is more hard work. No doubt you must have your genuine indices that have made us deserve this novel award. This will definitely encourage us to do more. On behalf of the staff and management of Onigbongbo LCDA we say a big thank you to the editorial board and the entire staff of Lagos Panorama and wish you all merry Christmas and a prosperous year ahead”.
The Lagos Panorama team are to conclude the Ikeja and Badagry Division award presentations this week and conclude with the Ikorodu, Epe and Lagos Island/Mainland to complete the 10 outstanding SDG Grassroots Local Government / Local council Development Areas next week.
