Association of Professional Women Engineers Commends Governor Sanwo-Olu for elevating Women

The Association of Professional Women Engineers has praised the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for giving women opportunity to serve in his administration.

Giving this commendation was the President of the Association, Engr. Funmilola Ojelade during a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe in her office, at Alausa on Thursday.

Engr. Ojelade praised the Governor for his decisive efforts at maintaining gender balance in his appointments, particularly the appointment of women into critical positions such as Permanent Secretary.

She felicitated with Engr. Abiola Kosegbe on her appointment as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, saying the appointment was well-deserved, considering her track record, diligence, visibility and network of relationships, which combined to earn her the exalted position in a clime where women are underrepresented.

The President said that the visit was to celebrate professional women, especially as the International Women’s Day, themed “Choose to Challenge”, is around the corner.

She added that the association was recognising women who rose above the usual stereotype, including Engr. Abiola Kosegbe, the Special Adviser, Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye and the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed as well as men of honour such the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu who had supported the cause of women.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe noted that as part of the agenda of the Sanwo-Olu led administration, the Governor of Lagos State was in tune with issues of gender equality by making sure that women were well represented.

“It is worthy of note that 10 out of the 18 officers recently appointed in the State as Permanent Secretaries by the Governor were women”, she said.

She mentioned that Lagos State was setting the pace for others to follow in terms of giving women adequate representation and urged women in management to brace up and be prepared to make their contributions felt, while justifying their management positions.
