In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC praised the governors for demonstrating unity of purpose at a period the country faces complex economic reforms and far-reaching policy adjustments.
Support for Federal Reform Agenda
The party noted that the PGF, under the chairmanship of Governor Hope Uzodimma and hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the statement, the governors’ endorsement of ongoing reforms—covering food security, power, transportation, infrastructure, enterprise development, social investment, and national security—shows “deep strategic alignment” between federal and state governments.
Focus on Citizens’ Welfare
The Lagos APC also highlighted the Forum’s emphasis on people-centred governance. It said the governors carried out a broad review of the nation’s socio-economic conditions and renewed their commitment to protecting the dignity and welfare of Nigerians across social and demographic groups.
“This is leadership that listens and understands the realities of citizens across the country,” the statement noted.
Acknowledging Economic Realities
The statement further commended the PGF for what it described as a “truthful and responsible” approach to discussing the temporary difficulties caused by current economic reforms. It said the governors recognised the sacrifices being made by Nigerians and pledged to expand interventions in agriculture, SME support, youth employment, and social protection.
Their resolve to strengthen collaboration with federal institutions, the National Economic Council, and local governments was highlighted as a sign of “mature and coordinated governance.”
A “Defining Moment”
The Lagos APC described the Lagos meeting as a pivotal point in the nation’s democratic journey, arguing that it demonstrated discipline and results-driven leadership at a time of political tension.
The statement added that Lagos remains a significant hub for major national political conversations and reform decisions.
Looking Ahead
The party urged Nigerians to draw confidence from the posture of the governors, insisting that although the path of reform is difficult, it is essential for long-term national prosperity.
