The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected comments attributed to Dele Momodu suggesting that Bola Ahmed Tinubu could lose the 2027 presidential election if Atiku Abubakar contests alongside Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party described the remarks as speculative, premature, and lacking any factual basis, insisting that current political realities do not support such projections.
According to the APC, emerging political alignments and developments across the country point instead to what it described as a likely victory for President Tinubu in the next general election. The party argued that many of the individuals being projected as challengers are grappling with internal divisions and waning support within their respective political camps.
The statement further noted that some opposition figures are contending with credibility issues and resistance from within their own constituencies, making claims of a potential electoral upset unrealistic.
The APC maintained that President Tinubu’s administration remains focused on implementing key reforms aimed at economic stabilization, improved national security, and long-term growth. It added that the Renewed Hope Agenda is addressing structural challenges while positioning Nigeria for recovery and sustained development.
The party also criticized what it described as speculative political narratives, stating that attempts to undermine ongoing reforms reflect a lack of constructive engagement. It emphasized that Nigerians are capable of assessing leadership based on performance and tangible outcomes.
While urging political actors and commentators to focus on national development rather than early election projections, the APC said the opposition must demonstrate greater coherence and credibility to gain the confidence of voters.
The Lagos APC expressed confidence that Nigerians will continue to support President Tinubu as his administration consolidates reforms and advances progress across key sectors.
The statement was signed by the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo.
