APC Chief Ganduje parleys Jonathan as party moves to woo Wike to join fold

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) , Abdullahi Ganduje has met with former President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence in Abuja.

Wike ready to cooperate with APC, says Ganduje - Daily Trust

The parley held behind closed doors may not be unconnected with the ongoing moves by Ganduje to rally support for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

This is as Ganduje inaugurated the seven member caretaker committee of the Rivers state chapter of the party led by Chief Tony Okocha.

Ganduje who decried the crisis that rocked the Rivers state chapter of the party charged the members of the caretaker committee to restore orderliness, recruit new members and reposition the party.

Said he: “We expect you to provide the enabling environment so that congresses could be conducted for the emergence of leadership at the ward level, local government level, state level and even senatorial level.

“We expect you to put more life into this party, there should be no discrimination, do not bother yourself about factions because you are brothers for unity, and regard yourself as APC brothers.

“We would like you to make history by building a strong foundation for our party, so that during the next gubernatorial election we have an APC government in River State, during the next presidential election, even though we are grateful, River State is the only state in the south where we succeeded in electing our president Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“So the government of today, you are part of it, you contributed and elected him to the government, today you can beat your chest negating that you have done your best and it is your contribution that our president has won the election we are proud of you.

“Also there are newcomers from other parties who are many according to our investigation, that would like to come into the party, so you can see that there is no time to rejig the party but now, especially rejigging the party leadership.”

He thereby charged the caretaker committee to conduct congresses that would usher in the leadership of the Rivers state chapter of the party within six months.

Okocha who later fielded questions from reporters assured that under the new dispensation, the “tendency of one man show” running the party would be erased in the party.

The Spokesperson of the caretaker committee, Mr Chibike Ikenga aknowledged that the former Minister of Transportation and Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi remains one of the leaders of the party.

He however said they would not hesitate to beckon on the Minister of the Federal capital territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to join the party as part of the new membership recruitment process in the state.

“Chief Nyesom Wike is an illustrious son of Rivers State but not a member of APC. He is a member of PDP. But if tomorrow he wants to join the APC we cannot stop anybody. As far as he wants to join others we will welcome them.”
