The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Lagos State Chapter, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi has called on Muslims and Christians to harness the spiritual significance of the concurrent Ramadan and Lenten periods to reflect on their divine and human connections.
Ojelabi made the call on Thursday in Lagos in a statement he signed to wish both Muslims and Christians a successful Ramadan and Lenten season.
He said that these periods are opportunities for both religious faithfuls to seek spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and deepening one’s connection with God.
“For Muslims, Ramadan is a time for sober reflection, self-realization, and spiritual rejuvenation, with the goal of attaining “Taqwa” or God-consciousness.
“The sacred month of Ramadan for Muslims worldwide is a sacred period of fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth. This blessed month offers a unique opportunity for Muslims to rejuvenate their faith, strengthen their bond with Allah, and cultivate empathy and compassion for humanity.
“I want to appeal to you to use this holy month to develop self-control, resilience, empathy and understand the struggles of the less fortunate who cannot even put a meal a day on their tables as you encourage the acts of kindness.
“Above all, let me encourage you to strive for peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation, that can lead to a more harmonious and cohesive society.”
Ojelabi urged Muslims to be more charitable by donating to those in need and promoting a sense of community and social responsibility.
He said that Prophet Muhammad (SAW), emphasized the importance of Ramadan, using this blessed month to touch humanity and promote compassion.
“His example should inspire Muslims to follow in his footsteps, spreading love, kindness, and generosity throughout the year.”
Ojelabi in his message to Christians said that the 40-day Lenten season is a significant spiritual practice that mirrors Jesus’ 40-day fast in the wilderness.
He said that this period is meant for intentional prayer, fasting, almsgiving and repentance, allowing believers to confess their sins, seek forgiveness, and experience spiritual renewal.
The Chairman urged Christians to use this time to draw nearer to God, practice self-denial and humility, and cultivate humility and self-discipline.
He said that he hoped that these fasting periods would lead to spiritual growth, renewal, and a deeper connection with God for both Muslims and Christians.
