Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday publicly declared his support for the state’s Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a personally signed statement, Ambode congratulated Hamzat on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a committed party loyalist.
“I join my fellow APC members to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus candidate of our great party,” he said.
Ambode commended Hamzat’s extensive consultations across party structures, noting that they reflect his dedication to the APC’s ideals of unity and progress. He added that the Deputy Governor’s emergence was a testament to his loyalty, hard work, and over two decades of service to the party.
The former governor expressed confidence in Hamzat’s capacity to lead Lagos, citing his wealth of experience and administrative competence.
Ambode also reaffirmed his strong support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the continued prosperity of both Lagos State and Nigeria is closely tied to his leadership.
“I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Tinubu. I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to his continued governance,” he said.
Looking ahead to the elections, Ambode called on APC members in Lagos to mobilise massively, setting a target of at least three million votes for Tinubu.
“As Lagos APC, our mission should be to deliver no fewer than three million votes for Mr. President and support other South-West states to achieve resounding victories. We must also ensure the return of all our party’s senators and representatives to the National Assembly,” he added.
He concluded on an optimistic note, expressing faith in a brighter future for both Lagos State and Nigeria.
