Algeria have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a dramatic last-gasp victory over DR Congo in their Round of 16 encounter.

Substitute Adil Boulbina proved the hero, scoring a stunning winner with just one minute remaining in extra time to seal a hard-fought win for the North Africans.

The tightly contested match appeared destined for a penalty shoot-out after both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances during regulation time and much of extra time. However, Boulbina’s late strike broke DR Congo’s resistance and sent Algeria into the last eight.

Following the narrow victory, Algeria will now face Nigeria in the quarter-finals on Saturday. The encounter is expected to be a stern test, as Algeria will need to raise their performance levels against the Super Eagles, finalists at the previous AFCON edition two years ago.

For now, Algeria can celebrate a dramatic progression, while Nigeria await in what promises to be a high-stakes quarter-final showdown.
