Super Eagles forward Akor Adams has revealed that his mother was admitted to hospital just hours before Nigeria’s second-round match against Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria recorded a dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique on Monday to secure qualification from the second round of the tournament. Adams featured prominently in the encounter, playing 86 minutes and scoring the fourth goal with a powerful strike in the 75th minute.

The goal marked Adams’ first-ever strike at the Africa Cup of Nations and his third goal in Nigeria colours.

Speaking after the match, the forward dedicated the goal to his mother, explaining that she was hospitalised on the morning of the game. He, however, expressed relief that her condition had improved.

“The goal is dedicated to my mum. She was supposed to be here, but she is in the hospital. She was admitted this morning, but she is much better now,” Adams said.

Adams also praised his teammates for their performance, singling out Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman for special commendation.

“I am happy for the team. Victor had a fantastic game, and Lookman also had a fantastic game. We came out with a victory, and we are happy,” he added.
