A passenger train operating on the Abuja-Kaduna route experienced a derailment on Monday, resulting in multiple passengers being stranded and causing panic throughout the corridor.
The train reportedly derailed at Asham, along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, following its departure from Abuja at 9:45 am.
A viral video circulating online shows at least two coaches derailing and crashing to the ground, despite a lack of details surrounding the incident.
According to a passenger who shared the incident on social media, the scene was chaotic, with commuters rushing to safety in a state of fear and confusion.
As of press time, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and the cause of the derailment remains unknown. Moreover, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or casualties.
In the meantime, security operatives have been deployed to the scene to aid stranded passengers and ensure that there are no security breaches in the aftermath of the derailment.
