Abiodun offers automatic jobs to OOU best graduating students

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Friday gave automatic employments to two best graduating students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye, just as he assured that his administration would within the available resources; take all necessary steps to ensure that OOU attains 100% accreditation for all its courses.

The beneficiaries of the automatic employment into the Ogun State civil service offered are Ajayi  Jesulayomi of the Electrical/ Electronics Engineering department  who emerged the best graduating student with Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate(CGPA) of 4.76 for 2017/18 session and  Chinonso Justice of the Biochemistry department who scored CGPA of 4.76 to clinch the best graduating student for 2018/19 session.

The Governor announced the job offer to the two graduands  at the 28 and 29 combined convocations ceremony of OOU where three distinguished Nigerians  – the Minister of Finance, Budget  and National Planning, Hajia Shamshuna Ahmed; the  Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle; and Maj. Gen. Adebanjo Awosanya (retired) were also conferred with Doctor of Science, Doctor of Letters and Doctor of Letters – all  honoris causa respectively, by the university.

Abiodun who had earlier in the morning inaugurated the institution’s newly built central administration building and 3000 – Seater Information Communication Technology(ICT) Centre – both products of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund), before proceeding to the convocation hall, urged the graduands not  to think of just their personal good, but the general good of humanity as a whole.

He also urged them to be courageous to face the challenges of life after graduation.

Meanwhile, a pro – Professor Sidi Osho peaceful rally rocked the convocation ground as students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOS), besieged the area in their hundreds, appealing to Governor Dapo Abiodun to reconsider Osho and appoint her the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology.

Sidi was one of the 19 Commissioner – nominees whose name were submitted to the state House of Assembly led by Speaker Kunle Oluomo and  was subsequently screened and recommended for appointment by the House but at the Swearing – In ceremony early January this year,  Prof. Osho was absent.

There was also controversy in respect of her nomination because a letter emanating from OOU was of the effect that she was relieved of her appointment following alleged “ethical issues and gross misconduct” committed by her.

But the students led by Com. Bamgbose Tomiwa Peters (NANS Chairman in the state) and  Com.Ogunrombi Gbemileke (NAOS National President) in their solidarity rally for Osho, said she was a “victim of dirty politics” and urged the Governor not to yield to whoever that  is opposed to her appointment.

As the rally progressed, the students chased  away the Dean of the Students Affairs of OOU, identified as Dr. Oladunjoye over alleged attempt by him to break their pro – Prof. Sidi Osho peaceful rally.

Oladunjoye drew the anger of the students who had gathered in front of the 3000-seater Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre being inaugurated by Governor Dapo Abiodun and Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed, when he walked to them, demanding that they take down forthwith,  banners bearing the image of Sidi Osho which the students raised sky high.

The Dean of Students Affairs also ordered them to fold the banner and take it away, apparently to ensure that they were not sighted by guests who came for the project inauguration and convocation, but the students stoutly challenged him, asking to know what right he had to attempt to disrupt their solidarity rally for Osho.
