Sanwo-Olu receives “best Tourism Governor” award

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has been recognised for his giant strides in the tourism, hospitality and creative sectors with the presentation of the “Best Tourism Governor” award to him by the initiator of Nigeria Travel Week.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has been recognised for his giant strides in the tourism, hospitality and creative sectors with the presentation of the “Best Tourism Governor” award to him by the initiator of Nigeria Travel Week.

The State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, who received the award on behalf of the State Government and Governor Sanwo-Olu in her office at Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday, said that although the Ministry embarked on different programmes and activities in spite of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic last year, much more is still expected from the Ministry by its numerous stakeholders.

While commending the organiser of the award for the honour, Akinbile-Yussuf assured residents of the State that the Ministry will continue to promote tourism activities in Lagos and project the rich cultural heritage of the Centre of Excellence to tourists in Diaspora.

She applauded the initiative of Nigeria Travel Week for recognising the Governor and the State Government at large, assuring that the Ministry will continue to ensure the promotion of a better synergy between the Lagos State Government and Nigeria Travel Week.

Her words: “This is a laudable initiative and I must say that the Ministry, on behalf of the State Government, is glad to be recognised by the platform, especially for appreciating the efforts of the State Government in the promotion of Lagos Tourism sector”.

Earlier, the C.E.O of Nigeria Travel Week, Mr. Efetobo Awhana, explained that the rationale behind initiating the award recognition was to promote tourism activities, stressing that there is a need to recognise and appreciate those who exhibit outstanding performance in the tourism sector.

Mr. Awhana later presented the award to the Commissioner, who was joined by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Solomon Bonu, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Princess Adenike Adedoyin-Ajayi to receive the “Best Tourism Governor” in Nigeria award on behalf of the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Recall that the maiden edition of the award initiated four years ago was also given to the Lagos State Government for its exemplary activities in the tourism sector.

The Nigeria Travel Week was initiated to recognise excellence and those who have made immense contributions to Nigeria’s tourism development.
