… Affected Property Owners To Be Compensated

The Lagos State Government has announced plan to recover the Right of Way (ROW) of Aradagun-Imeke-Iworo-Ajido-Epeme-roads in Badagry Local Government Area of the State, with adequate measures put in place to compensate all identified Property Owners that would be affected by the exercise.

The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, who disclosed this at a Stakeholders’ meeting held at Ikeja, said the essence of the meeting is to carry every stakeholder along on the planned action.

According to him, the government plans to construct high-grade roads with interlocking bricks in the communities in order to ensure sustainable physical and socio-economic development of the area.

The Commissioner, who was represented by TPL Philomena Adenuga said: “I want to assure all affected Property Owners that the state government would compensate you accordingly.

“I encourage you to submit any relevant documents such as Land Receipt, Survey Plan, Approved Building Plan Permit or any document which would serve as proof of ownership along with the copies of the Statutory Notices served to your structures to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at Block 15, the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja to facilitate the payment of compensation”.

The Commissioner, however, urged the stakeholders to ensure that developments embarked upon in the area after the intervention of the State Government are done in line with the Badagry Masterplan, adding that it must adhere to Town Planning and Building Laws and Regulations to ensure a sustainable physical and socio-economic environment.

Earlier, the Representative of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Tpl. Adekunle Osude, urged the stakeholders to take advantage of the six-month window given by the Government to all owners of existing structures in the State to regularise their documents without Penal Charges in line with the amnesty offer which commenced on 1st March, 2018 and to end on August 31st, 2018.

Analysing the Project Brief, Engr. Oladotun Lasoju said the recovery of ROW would require the removal of structures which pose as encumbrances for the reconstruction and upgrade of the road networks to take place.

According to him, “The proposed alignment is 6.6km with 21m width ROW that transverses three settlements of Iworo, Ajido and Epeme. The road alignment started from the end of the newly constructed IwereBridge and at about 600m into the length swerved away from the existing roads thereby affecting some structures in the core area of Imeke town”.

The traditional rulers who were in attendance including HRM, Oba (Dr.) Oladele Idris Kosoko Ogundeyi II, Oniworo of Iworo Kingdom, HRM, Oba Adamson Shaheed Temitope Sedonu, Toyiga I of Ajido and HRM, Oba Abraham Olatunji Ogabi (JP), Oyikilu I, Ajagunle of Imeke Kingdom, all stressed the need for the stakeholders to embrace development by cooperating with the contractors, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) and Government officials.
