Kadri Israel of Agidingbi Primary School and Amaukwu Favour of State Junior High School, Onilekere, have emerged winners in the primary and secondary school categories, respectively, at the 2026 Spelling Bee 2.0 Competition organised by Ikeja Local Government.
The competition, held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the Marriage Registry Hall of the council, featured pupils from eight primary schools, with two contestants representing each school to demonstrate their spelling proficiency and academic abilities.
The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), announced a reward package comprising a laptop, cash gift and free holiday training in data analysis for Kadri Israel in recognition of his outstanding performance.
The competition was organised under the Knowledge-Based Economic Empowerment pillar of the I.K.E.J.A Agenda, which focuses on education, skills acquisition and opportunities for young people.
Announcing the reward, Dauda said the initiative was designed to encourage academic excellence while equipping young people with relevant digital skills for the future.
“Our future is bright, and we need to encourage this boy. That is why I said I am going to give him a laptop personally and enrol him in an IT programme, especially data analysis, to secure his future,” the Chairman said.
In the primary school category, Israel clinched first position, followed by Sikiru Aishat of Shogunle Primary School in second place and Ihie Jessica of State Primary School, Onipese, who came third.
As part of the programme, the top three primary school winners will have the opportunity to experience local government administration. The overall winner will serve as Council Chairman for a day, while the second-place winner will assume the role of Vice Chairman and the third-place winner will serve as Leader of the Legislative House.
In the junior secondary school category, Amaukwu Favour, Assistant Head Girl of State Junior High School, Onilekere, emerged first, followed by Abdulrasherd Radia in second position and Eze Chinedu in third place. The secondary school contestants were drawn from the council’s junior secondary school.

He also encouraged pupils to embrace discipline, hard work and consistent study, describing these as essential ingredients for academic success.
In her remarks, Favour expressed appreciation to the organisers and pledged to prepare diligently for the state competition.
