Elderly residents, schoolchildren benefit as constituents commend initiative; next outreach coming soon

The Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, has concluded a two-day free eye care outreach that benefited more than 500 residents across Ikeja Constituency II.

The initiative, organised in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), formed part of activities marking World Sight Day 2026. It was designed to promote eye health and improve access to essential eye care services at the grassroots.

The outreach attracted beneficiaries from different segments of the community, including elderly residents and schoolchildren, who received professional eye examinations, medical consultations and other essential eye care services. Participants also received guidance on maintaining healthy vision, while those requiring further medical attention were advised accordingly.

The two-day programme recorded an encouraging turnout, with beneficiaries expressing appreciation to Hon. Kasunmu for bringing eye care services closer to their communities. Several constituents commended the lawmaker for prioritising their health and providing access to services that might otherwise have been beyond the reach of some residents.

Speaking on the success of the exercise, Kasunmu reaffirmed his commitment to the health and welfare of his constituents, stressing the importance of preventive healthcare, regular eye examinations and the early detection of vision-related conditions.

He also assured residents that the initiative would be extended to other parts of the constituency, with another outreach planned to enable more people to benefit from the free eye care programme.

The successful exercise highlights Kasunmu’s emphasis on people-oriented representation and grassroots engagement, particularly through interventions aimed at improving residents’ access to essential healthcare services.

Kasunmu is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ikeja Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Beyond the eye care outreach, his constituency-focused activities span legislative representation, empowerment programmes, job creation, project facilitation, healthcare interventions and youth development, among other initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

These efforts underscore his continued engagement with constituents and commitment to supporting community development through programmes that address their needs and contribute to the broader development of Lagos State.
