AKOD’S INTENTIONAL REVENUE DRIVE YIELDS RESULTS ON THIRD DAY

IKEJA, LAGOS — The intentional revenue mobilisation and compliance drive of Ikeja Local Government recorded further progress on Thursday as the Executive Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), continued his direct engagement with business owners and operators in Computer Village.

The exercise, which commenced on Adepele Street, was supported by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore, other Executive members, management staff and revenue officers of the Council.

A major highlight of the exercise was the Chairman’s personal supervision of the revenue team as it moved from one street to another, engaging businesses individually, verifying payment statuses and checking official receipts to establish outstanding obligations.

The direct engagement also provided business owners with an opportunity to present their concerns to the Chairman, who clarified issues and educated operators on applicable Local Government laws, levies and their statutory responsibilities.

During the exercise, it was discovered that some businesses were still relying on revenue bills from previous years. AKOD clarified that old bills should not be regarded as current assessments, advising affected businesses to obtain the appropriate current assessment, fulfil their payment obligations and retain official receipts for verification.

The Chairman commended businesses that have cooperated with the exercise, noting that improved revenue compliance is critical to enhancing the Council’s capacity to deliver quality infrastructure, environmental services, healthcare interventions and other sustainable development initiatives.

Following the completion of the exercise on Adepele Street, AKOD and the revenue team proceeded to Otigba Street, where the mobilisation and compliance exercise continued.

The ongoing initiative underscores the AKOD administration’s commitment to building a transparent, structured and development-oriented revenue system, while encouraging businesses across Ikeja Local Government to fulfil their statutory obligations and contribute to the sustainable development of the council.
