The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Alhaja Sidikat Basiru, the beloved mother of its National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, Ph.D. She died at the age of 92.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 28, 2026, the party described the late Alhaja Basiru as a devout Muslim, a woman of exceptional virtue and compassion, a loving mother, and a respected matriarch who lived a life defined by faith, sacrifice, and selfless service.
According to the APC, she raised her family on the enduring values of discipline, integrity, and the fear of Almighty Allah, leaving behind a lasting legacy of love, generosity, and moral excellence. The party noted that her wisdom, religious devotion, and exemplary character were clearly reflected in the life and distinguished public service of Senator Basiru and her other accomplished children.
On behalf of the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the National Working Committee, party leaders, members, and supporters, the APC extended its heartfelt condolences to Senator Basiru and the entire Basiru family during this period of mourning.
The party prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives her shortcomings, accepts her righteous deeds, and grants her eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
